Baby Talk:
Communicating with
Your Child
Laurie Ben-Moshe, M.A., CCC-SLP, Amit Early Intervention Specialist
Lauren Zimet, M.S., CCC-SLP, Founder of Early Insights, LLC

Laurie Ben-Moshe will discuss the stages of language development and the benefits of early intervention while Lauren Zimet will share how you can give your baby the gift of early communication through the use of sign language.  Infants and toddlers have a desire to express their needs and wishes, but lack the ability to do so because speech production requires coordination that lags behind cognitive ability.  Sign language gives babies and parents or caregivers and effective way to communicate at an early age, reducing frustration while fostering language and intellectual development.  Babies begin to use their hands to communicate such as bye-bye and clapping, so it is an easy and natural process to introduce additional hand signs.  Early communication will help your baby be happy and create a bond that is important for healthy child development.

“The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, the education, the money, than circumstances, than failure, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company... [an organization]... a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you... we are in charge of our Attitudes.”
