"The gut is the place to start healing - not cure disease. Research has linked leaky gut to many health concerns and seemingly unrelated chronic diseases. With more people affected by chronic stress, toxic overload, inflammatory diets, and bacterial imbalance in the gut, the prevalence of leaky gut and gut related issues, like candida overgrowth and small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), is becoming epidemic." --The Hidden Connection, Copyright 2014
The Healthy Foundations program believes strongly in the critical link between nutrition and function. Lauren began her work with feeding therapy as a speech language pathologist. As a result of her work in this area, she became increasingly aware of the role of nutrition plays, and the impact it has on all development, including the speech and language areas. As she began to integrate more nutritional interventions with traditional oral-motor/feeding and speech/language interventions, she noticed improvements in her clients that were remarkable. This was an important impetus in her obtaining her certification as a Natural Health Care Practitioner and developing relationships with certified nutritionists with whom she works closely, to make sure each client's needs are met.
"Symptoms" act as messengers to alert us that something needs attention in our bodies. As a healthcare consultant, Lauren helps individuals by looking at body, mind and spirit supporting them on their nutrition and wellness journey, consulting with certified nutritionists when necessary. We create a plan that focuses on a healthy lifestyle and a holistic, individualized "real-food" focused strategy. Each plan is specially developed for an individual's wants, goals and needs, using vitamins and supplements if/as needed. By working together, we figure out exactly how to modify and enrich the diet to alleviate symptoms and heal the gut.

Kathleen DiChiara, FDN, CHC is the renowned author of The Hidden Connection, which explores the connection between what we eat and how we feel. Kathleen's life took a devastating turn in her late 30s. At the time, she had two young children, was an athlete, and worked as an executive at a fortune 500 firm. Out of the blue, she had sudden onset neuropathy in her legs, which led to back surgery followed by unexplained short-term paralysis. This spiraled into several disorders - fibromyalgia, chronic myofascial syndrome, IBS, severe food allergies, chronic pain syndrome, and more. As a proponent of homeopathic nutritional therapy, DiChiara utilizes both her personal struggles and triumphs, and scientific research to encourage a healthier lifestyle on the foundation of food.
Julia Turner, MMSc, RD, LN, is a registered dietitian and licensed nutritionist based in Montana, where she and her family relocated from Atlanta over two years ago. While many of her clients present with diagnoses like autism, ADHD, mood and sensory disorders, food sensitivities and digestive disorders, most share the common problem of disordered brain chemistry. With appropriate nutrition measures in place, underlying symptoms improve, often resulting in better brain, gut and whole body health. Another area of interest for Julia is promotion of brain health nutrition across the life span, educating clients on how to use food to boost their mood, increase energy and optimize cognition no matter what their age. She consults with clients across the country and the world.
